Nominations welcome for the Johanna Mestorf Award

2017/01/17

The Johanna Mestorf Award is biannually awarded for outstanding dissertations of all scientific fields dealing with an area of socio-environmental research and landscape archaeology of past societies. GS members and partners may submit their nominations by February 19, 2017.

The Johanna Mestorf Award is endowed with a prize of € 3.000 by the Johanna Mestorf Academy (JMA) and the Graduate School Human Development in Landscapes (GSHDL) at Kiel University.

A young researcher with an outstanding dissertation that was completed not more than two years before the time of application can be nominated for the award by professors and supervisors within the GSHDL/JMA as well as by associated national and international partners of the Graduate School through the submission of a letter of recommendation. The prize may be shared and should benefit the scientific research of the awardee(s), but the use of the prize is optional within this framework.

For the current announcement period, recommendations must be submitted by February 19, 2017 together with the corresponding doctoral dissertation. Please send recommendation letters and dissertations only as PDF via e-mail to office@gshdl.uni-kiel.de.

The prize can only be awarded in the presence of the awardee. The presentation of the Johanna Mestorf Award will take place on March 20, 2017 at the open workshop “Socio-Environmental Dynamics over the Last 12,000 Years: The Creation of Landscapes V” in Kiel.
